Literacy

This graphic details the essential elements in a comprehensive literacy program.  The graphic was created by an Indigenous Artist from our community - Raine Ravnborg.

Oral language is the foundation upon which Literacy knowledge and skills grow and develop.  Students require systematic, explicit instruction as well as meaningful practice opportunities to solidify their knowledge of and skills in phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics to effectively read and write texts.  Developing vocabulary, building fluency, and learning to apply comprehension strategies support creating meaning from and with text.
