Analyzing graphs

Slow Reveal Graphs are created by educators and shared on this website.  The goal is to dissect a graph piece by piece, slowly revealing more information about the graph to students via a slide deck (which is downloadable generally as a Google Slide deck).  Click on the lesson to see a quick description of the kind of graph that’s focused on and to find the clickable link to the slide deck.

Website

You’ll find a huge collection of graphs that have already all been formatted onto a printable one page to give to students.  Each set of graphs comes with prompting questions for students to explore and space to record their analysis of the data.  See “About GOW” in the menu for more ideas of how to use the graphs.

Indigenous Math

Math Catcher ~ storytelling

Math Catcher uses Indigenous storytelling to encourage an interest in math for students.  Created by two professors from UBC and SFU, the goal was to introduce math to Aboriginal students in context of their culture.  The creators worked with different Aboriginal groups to gather stories that they could tell that had math interwoven in them.  They have received positive feedback about the animated stories and activities they have created from different Aboriginal groups across Canada.  The link below is a recent article that provides more information on the reception and goal of their website.
